Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in parliament today that his sibling started making allegations about him after disagreements regarding 38 Oxley Road.
He said that he could not agree to their demands and hence the dispute worsened.
PM Lee said that he had offered to sell 38 Oxley Road to his sister Dr Lee Wei Ling for one dollar, but she did not take up the offer.
Subsequently, his brother Lee Hsien Yang got involved in the issue.
PM Lee eventually sold 38 Oxley Road to Lee Hsien Yang at market value, and donated the proceeds from the sale of the house to charity.
“My brother wanted in on the deal. He wanted to join in and jointly buy the house with my sister from me for one dollar. But during the discussions, disagreement arose. My siblings started making allegations about me and escalating them. So I told them they’d have to stop attacking me if they wanted the deal done because otherwise if I transferred the house to them and the quarrel continues there’s no point. And they wanted me to give a certain undertaking, I won’t go into all the details now, but I could not agree to what they asked for so we were at an impasse.”
However, Dr Lee Wei Ling has called out PM Lee for what she claims is an inaccurate portrayal of the situation.
Said Dr Lee:
“When Hsien Loong offered to sell Oxley to me for SD$1.00, I immediately asked Hsien Yang to be part of the deal with me. I have neither the time, nor the inclination to deal with the house on my own. Hsien Yang did not ask to join me in purchasing the house for $1. Also, Hsien Yang had long planned to demolished the house when I no longer need it & convert it into a public garden. Neither of us were planning to profit from the deal.
As for the donation to charity, Papa was very clear in his mind, he & Mama had paid for the property at the full financial value when they bought it, there was there for no need to donate to charity any money related to transactions on Oxley.”
