The Malaysian bus driver who ran over and killed a 90-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting the police with investigations.
The man was crushed and parts of his body burst open at the force of the impact.
The accident happened in front of block 301 on Jurong East Street 32 at 11.58am.
The bus was an SMRT bus, number 187, driven by the 34-year-old Malaysian female.
SMRT Corporate Information and Communications Patrick Nathan told local media, “We have contacted Mr Tan’s family and will render assistance as best as we can during this very difficult time.
“We would like to express our deepest condolences to Mr Tan’s family.”
According to SMRT’s initial investigation, telematics data and onboard camera footage showed that the bus had just been driven out of the bus bay and was going at a speed of about 34kmh when the accident happened.
SMRT also said that Mr Tan was crossing within the yellow box as the bus was moving.
