At about 2.45am today, police and SCDF officers were attending to an attempted suicide incident at the Braddell flyover area on the CTE in the direction of the SLE.
About half an hour later, a van smashed into one of the Red Rhino vehicles that was parked on the shoulder of the flyover.
The crash also resulted in an ambulance being damaged.
After the crash, the van skidded for about 5 minutes and toppled over on its side.
Fortunately, he got away with just abrasions on his arms and legs.
The 69-year-old van driver wasn’t so fortunate – he complained of pain in his chest area and together with the injured SCDF officer was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Shortly after the accident, another crash took place just 10 metres away.
This time, a car smashed into the back of a taxi.
The female passenger in the car complained of giddiness and was sent to hospital.
As a result of both incidents, 4 of the 5 lanes on the expressway were blocked.
At the end of it all, the man who was attempting suicide was arrested.
The injured SCDF officer has since been discharged and given 2 days medical leave.
