In a gut-wrenching video that was shared online yesterday, an old lady was slapped several times till she could barely stand straight by two women who are supposedly her family members.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development, upon catching wind of the incident, has stepped in to investigate.
The old lady was sweeping the floor at the time when the two younger women started slapping her for reasons still unclear.
Police were later seen going to the unit and taking one of the women into custody, while the old lady was sent to hospital with her head bandaged.
According to the eyewitness who recorded this video, the old lady has been abused for some time now.
Said Apoh Teck Numero:
“From an old cheerful lady to a botak and fragile old lady whose face is bruised everytime single time we saw her. As much as we would want to render help, we are in no position to. (domestic affair) We have been witnessing alot of incident but just this one time, we decided to discreetly video-ed them. They were pretending to be talking nicely when my mum was along the corridor hanging the laundry. But the moment my mum stepped into our house…………this is just one of the things that happened. This is not the first time. Watch it. Such inhuman.”
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the public.
Social workers report that they are seeing a growing number of cases where vulnerable adults are mistreated by their family, with several hundred cases surfacing each year.
