“Tolong, Tolong!” Poor Makcik Beaten with Broom and Shaved, Say Neighbours

Two years ago, she was healthy, friendly, and had nice hair.

Today, the old lady at the heart of an alleged abuse case is a pale shadow of her former self – and her hair is gone, shaved off by her daughter.

Neighbours say they often heard loud quarrels coming from the home of the frail and reclusive 60-year-makcik.

She’s said to be staying there with her husband and daughter, Siti.

Often, loud shouting can be heard between Siti and her father.

Sometimes, neighbours would hear the poor makcik cry out, “tolong, tolong” (help, help).

They say that her daughter would on occasion hit her with a broom or a stick.

One neighbour said he saw the makcik get kicked by her daughter as they emerged from a taxi one day.

The old lady was rushed to Singapore General Hospital on Monday night (20 Jul), after she was repeatedly slapped by two women – on of whom is believed to be her daughter.

Police and the Social and Family Development Ministry are investigating the incident, after this video recorded and uploaded online by a concerned neighbour went viral.

The rest of the family has apparently moved out of the flat at Lower Delta road.

A note pasted on the wall in front of the house, supposedly written by Siti, put the move down to bad debts.
