Tree Falls and Smashes Taxi during Rainstorm

A horrifying accident on the CTE towards the SLE yesterday, near the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 exit.

One that almost killed a taxi driver and his passenger.

It was raining heavily and a tree fell and crashed into the taxi, smashing its windshield, roof and rear windscreen.

The taxi uncle, a Mr Zheng, said:

“Suddenly, there was a loud sound on the top of the cab, and the whole vehicle shook. I immediately braked.”

The woman passenger, a 60-year-old lady who was sitting in the backseat, was shocked by the impact.

Fortunately, both taxi uncle and passenger got out unharmed.

The incident took place at about 5pm and cause a 4km-long jam that lasted for over an hour.

The Environment Ministry has come under criticism for the common occurrence of tree falls in recent times, in which such incidents either killed people or caused major damage to property.

Some have questioned the efforts of the Ministry in checking on public trees and ensuring their existence is safe.
