Void Deck Renovation Work Damages Floor of Resident’s Flat, Almost Drills Through Ah Ma Foot

It looks like a scene from some criminal heist movie, but this is more a case of renovation works gone wrong.

A resident of Block 231 Toa Payoh Lorong 8 was very upset to discover a hole in his bedroom floor, caused by renovation works that are taking place at the void deck of the block.

The resident, Mr Chen, lives on the second storey of the HDB flat.

Mr Chen said he went to talk to the workers, but they did not pay any heed to him.

Later on, two more holes appeared in the living room floor.

Mr Chen’s mother, who is in her 70s, said she could have been hurt.

“I saw the floor crack. If I had been standing nearer, my feet would have been pierced or broken fragments would have hit my eyes.”

Mr Chen again rushed downstairs and told the construction workers to stop work.

He says that, once again, he was ignored.

Helpless, Mr Chen reported the matter to the HDB.

The incident took place on 6 Nov.

On 14 Nov, HDB officers inspected the damage to Mr Chen’s flat.

The officers said that the HDB will replace the damaged flooring, but told Mr Chen that it will take some time as they need to source for similar tiles to replace the cracked ones.
