A message has been spreading on WhatsApp regarding an We Care For SG flyer being a scam.
The flyer is an advertisement for a free high blood pressure device for housholds.
The message includes a picture of a crumpled flyer and bears a text stating that this is a “scam” and warning against scanning the QR code on the flyer.
Suspicions were roused amongst Singaporeans who did scan the QR code as one had to register with their Singpass details and reveal other personal details such as their name, address and phone number.
They were afraid that their personal information would be compromised, in the wake of many online phishing scams that have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars.
AIA has since confirmed that the offer of a free high blood pressure device is not a scam, and that the We Care For SG company is one of its partners.
However, for those looking for a freebie, the device is only given to the first 2000 people who sign up.
