The MRT “Gay Ah Pek”, who shot to notoriety after he was filmed asking an American man if he wanted to have sex with him, has pled guilty to harassment and assault.
71-year-old Gan Thean Soo is now out on bail and will be sentenced at the end of this month.
Gan propositioned 25-year-old American Joseph Flynn De Marini on board an MRT train carriage on 19 April last year at around 8.15pm.
He was seated opposite De Marini and was noticed staring at De Marini as the train passed Farrer Park station.
Gan, all of a sudden, got up and asked the American if he wanted to have sex with him.
He also asked De Marini if he could kiss him.
Strangely enough, Gan isn’t gay, and neither is De Marini.
In court today, the prosecution said that Gan “continued insisting that the victim had ‘signalled’ him and that he was jealous that the victim was touching a woman.”
Gan continued harassing De Marini, to the extent of slapping him at one point, until another passenger intervened and escorted Gan away.
De Marini, who had recorded the incident, later uploaded the clip on Facebook and made a police report.
Gan has maintained that he wasn’t sober at the time, having just left a drinking session.
He is now out on bail and will be back in court on 27 April.
