NTUC Rice Garden “Budget” Meal: Pathetic Portions, No Choice of Dishes

Nope, those aren’t the same plate of rice taken from different angles.

That’s what one NTUC member Kong Mala was served on different days at a NTUC Foodfare Rice Garden stall at Albert Food Centre.

Such stalls serve “budget meal” options, priced at S$1.50 for ComCare cardholders and S$2.50 for NTUC members as well as those who hold the PG, MG and CHAS Blue cards.

Yet, the experience left much to be desired.

Kong took to social media to denounce such service, saying that the elderly and poor who choose the budget option should not be made to eat the same food every day.

“Look at those pathetic and miserable servings. I wonder those under Comcare who paid $1.50, what do they serve them.”

Apparently, the stallholders only allowed patrons to select their 2 veg 1 meat dishes if they pay the usual price of S$3.00.

NTUC has apologised for the “unpleasant experience”.

It said that necessary steps will be taken to “ensure that food stall operators adhere to pre-agreed standard operating procedures”.

According to NTUC’s SOPs, dishes under the budget option that customers can choose from must be clearly identified with colour-coded tags.
