Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Dr Teo Chee Hean has been criticised for political “hijacking of an Edusave Awards ceremony in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.
Teo, according to a parent who was there to watch her 17-year-old daughter receive an award, showed presentation slides related to public housing issues.
The Pasir Ris-Punngol MP even took swipes at the Workers’ Party for the party’s 2019 proposal on public housing.
Said the parent in an Instagram post:
“With all due respect, we are here to celebrate our children’s achievements. Why do you put us through this?”
Singaporeans who have seen the post have widely condemned Teo’s actions.
Said one commentator:
“The award recipients damn suay. Like kena lured by old man to a room and listen to his dirty jokes.”
Others said that Teo’s actions “reeked of desperation” and he was “samn sia suay” to be prioritise the whacking of his political opponents over spending time giving due encouragement to young Singaporeans at the ceremony.
