60 percent (302 people) are under home quarantine while the rest of the 222 people are being held in government quarantine facilities.
This was announced by National Development Minister Lawrence Wong today.
Mr Wong said that persons who have been quarantined are required to stay in their designated locations at all times, and are not allowed physical interaction with others in the premises.
Said Mr Wong:
“We would use video calls, phone calls and regular spot checks to ensure that they remain in their assigned quarantine location.”
Any person who breaks the rules of quarantine can be punished with fines or jail time.
So far, there have been 18 confirmed cases in Singapore – in all cases, patients had recently travelled to Hubei province, where the virus epicentre Wuhan is located.
The coronavirus has killed more than 360 people to date, out of more than 17,000 persons infected.
